Al is the owner and director of Bethesda Physical Therapy. Over the last 30-plus years, he has worked in a variety of settings, including as director of a chronic pain/work hardening center and an orthopedics and sports medicine facility.
Allen received his physical therapy degree from the University of Maryland (at Baltimore) in 1984. In 2003, he became certified as a McKenzie-trained therapist, passing The McKenzie Institute Credentialing Examination in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.
In 1990, Al opened his first successful practice in Bethesda and, after six years, joined a national physical therapy corporation where he continued to practice and direct his original Bethesda clinic. Over the course of 10 years, he rose to the position of Group Director and eventually was responsible for eight other area clinics. Al left the corporate setting in late 2004 as he wanted to re-establish an independent, patient-centred practice. A keen golfer himself, Al is TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified as a Golf Fitness Instructor. He is also an FMS (Functional Movement Systems) certified exercise professional.
