What is Sports Physical Therapy?

Sports physical therapy is defined by the APTA as “[professionals who] work with athletes to prevent injury and evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletes who have become injured.” Our physical therapists in Bethesda and Kensington can work specifically with athletes and can be used by sports teams, or individuals in designing plans for optimizing workouts and preventing injury, as well as addressing and healing injury after it occurs.

Our clinicians are trained to design individualized exercise programs and protocols that are established for improving range of motion, flexibility, strength, and endurance. We also use traditional therapies such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and traction. We incorporate state–of–the–art equipment for strengthening, joint proprioception and sports specific rehabilitation.
